At long last there is a longer lasting wrinkle relaxer to compete with Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and Juveau. With these products, the typical duration of effect is 3 months, but “Daxi” has been shown to last 6 months or more. All of these products are based on the exact same molecule – botulinum toxin type A – and are FDA- approved for treatment of facial wrinkles due to hyperactive muscles of expression in the
brow area. Each brand has a tag at the beginning of its generic name, such as onabotulinumtoxinA for Botox, and daxibotulinumtoxinA for Daxxify. So how did Revance, the creator of Daxxify, pull off this feat of longevity?
Before we get to that, a fun fact:
The double “x” in Daxxify signifies that it lasts 2x as long!
Powered by peptide
Though all of these products work in the same way, they have different carrier proteins that surround the toxin molecule. These proteins dissolve away after injection. Daxxify is made by removing the proteins entirely and instead bonding the toxin to a peptide (peptides are sort of mini proteins.) This peptide stabilizes the toxin molecule, resulting in slower breakdown but rapid onset. Interestingly, it also eliminates the need to add human albumin so it is vegan! (Never thought I would be saying that about a neurotoxin, but who knew botulinum toxin would remain one of the safest and most popular cosmetic treatments after so many years?)
Another important difference is that Daxxify is measured in different units, so you won’t be able to directly compare per-unit cost with other wrinkle relaxers. In the long run it will likely cost less to maintain the effect. So “relaxify” with Daxxify!
