Labiaplasty in Seattle

Labiaplasty is a surgical body contouring procedure that is typically performed to reduce the skin folds surrounding your urethra and vagina, known as the labia minora. Excess tissue in this region may become pinched or twisted, which can result in discomfort during physical activities like exercise and intercourse. Some patients also seek a labiaplasty for cosmetic purposes.

At PHASE Plastic Surgery, board-eligible surgeon Dr. Megan Gray is dedicated to helping patients find comfort and confidence in their appearance. Our friendly and nonjudgmental atmosphere helps patients feel safe as they pursue a labiaplasty in Seattle.

Why You Might Consider a Labiaplasty

Our team can help patients in Seattle explore the benefits of labiaplasty as you determine which cosmetic procedure best fits your needs. The advantages of undergoing a labiaplasty can be both aesthetic and functional.

Functional Benefits

An enlarged labia may cause difficulties with physical activity and hygiene. A labiaplasty can reduce physical discomfort, chaffing, and irritation. It can also address difficulties with tampons or hygiene concerns that may result in urinary tract infections.

Aesthetic Benefits

For those looking for a more symmetric appearance, a labiaplasty can effectively reshape the area. It may become easier to wear certain types of clothing, and you may feel overall more comfortable with your appearance.

Are You a Candidate for Labiaplasty?

It is important to keep in mind that there is no “ideal” labia and every patient is unique, so you should pursue this procedure because it is something you want rather than because of outside pressure.

If you experience discomfort because of the size of your labia, you may be a good candidate for labiaplasty. Ideal candidates are also:

  • At least age 18
  • In good overall health
  • Unsatisfied with the size or shape of their labia
  • Experience discomfort when exercising, having intercourse, or sitting

Patients undergoing this procedure sometimes have tears in their labia as a result of childbirth. The labia can also become enlarged from puberty, menopause, weight changes, and genetics.

Most labiaplasty patients in Seattle are between the ages of 18 and 50. Because the labia may tear or stretch during childbirth, it may be best to wait until you are finished having children to undergo this procedure. Downtime is typically 4 weeks, and all sutures used are dissolvable.

Your Personalized Labiaplasty Procedure

Dr. Gray will explain each step of labiaplasty surgery so Seattle patients can feel confident on the day of their procedure. We will take the time to address any questions or concerns that you may have about the process.

Typically, a labiaplasty takes less than two hours to complete and is an outpatient procedure. This can often be performed under local anesthesia with or without sedation.

Dr. Gray will also work with you to determine which surgical method will best address your goals and concerns.

Trim Procedure

This is the most widely used labiaplasty technique. It involves removing and suturing the excess along the border of the labia minora to make this area more flush with the labia majora but does involve more scarring.

Wedge Procedure

This option involves removing a wedge from the most prominent or central portion of the labia minora. It gives a natural appearance after the surgery by preserving the edges of the labia minora with a vertically oriented incision.

At PHASE Plastic Surgery, we strive to help individuals achieve their ideal appearance, whether that requires a small change or a dramatic transformation.
