Otoplasty in Seattle

An otoplasty can be performed on patients at any age after their ears have reached adult size, which typically happens between five and six years old.

Candidates for this procedure should be in good health, with no diseases or pre-existing conditions that may impair the healing process. You should have realistic expectations for the surgery’s outcomes, which our team can help with. Additionally, you should be interested in surgery because of internal motivations rather than external or societal pressures.

One of our highly trained surgeons in Seattle will discuss your goals and health history to help determine whether an otoplasty is a good fit for you. We will also discuss the kind of results you can expect afterward.

Your surgeon will explain the surgical process to you beforehand and answer any questions you may have. We want you to feel confident about the process and understand what to expect each step of the way.

Surgical techniques for an otoplasty vary, and the procedure typically takes several hours to complete. Incisions may be made behind your ears or within your ear’s inner creases to help keep scars hidden. Once incisions are made, your surgeon will remove extra tissue, cartilage, and skin. The next step is folding the cartilage, which is then secured with stitches inside the ear. Additional stitching is used to close the incision.

Once the surgery is finished, your ears will be covered in bandages as you recover. Your surgeon will tell you how long they should remain and discuss other best practices for caring for yourself during your recovery from ear surgery in Seattle. They will also discuss when you can return to your regular routine.
