As time progresses, gravity and aging alter the shape and firmness of your breasts, even if you previously underwent a breast procedure. You may experience frustration when a breast lift or augmentation fails to maintain its shape for the duration you expected. Many individuals seek additional support beyond what implants alone provide. The pursuit of longer-lasting results without frequent revisions motivates many women to explore more effective surgical solutions.
One of the most innovative advances in breast procedures is the internal bra in Mountlake Terrace. Dr. Richard Baxter, a board-certified plastic surgeon at PHASE Plastic Surgery, has been at the forefront of this technique for more than 20 years. He was among the first to refine its use in both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery and even participated as an investigator in clinical trials of Galaflex, the leading mesh material for internal bras. If you are considering a breast lift, augmentation, or revision, Dr. Baxter’s experience ensures you receive care guided by both innovation and proven results.
What Is an Internal Bra?
An internal bra provides additional internal support during breast surgery when natural tissues no longer offer sufficient lift. The surgeon places a surgical mesh, often made of either long-lasting or dissolvable material, beneath the skin and breast tissue. This mesh functions like an external bra on the inside—holding the breasts in their new position and relieving the skin from bearing the full responsibility for support.
Dr. Baxter has published research and case series on the effectiveness of these materials, showing that properly placed mesh can enhance shape, reduce sagging, and improve long-term durability. Whether you undergo a breast lift, augmentation, or revision of a previous procedure in Mountlake Terrace, adding an internal bra can provide stability that standard techniques alone often cannot achieve.
Why You Might Consider This Procedure
Many women in Mountlake Terrace choose the internal bra for one key reason—lasting support. As the body ages, skin stretches and loses strength. Weight changes, pregnancy, gravity, and prior surgeries can all weaken breast tissue, making it difficult to maintain fullness or implant position. The internal bra reinforces these weakened tissues, helping preserve results over time.
If you have noticed that a previous lift or implant did not last as long as you hoped, this technique could provide the reinforcement you need. It is also recommended for correcting implant malposition, rippling, or downward displacement. Women with thin or stretched skin, or those considering larger implants, often benefit most from this approach.
Dr. Baxter’s experience with different materials allows him to tailor the procedure to your needs. His preferred option, Galaflex, is made from a biocompatible polymer (P4HB) that slowly dissolves over 15–18 months while leaving behind your body’s own supportive tissue. It feels natural, does not interfere with mammograms, and has an excellent safety record. In revision cases, he may also use Acellular Dermal Matrix (ADM) products such as Strattice, which integrate with your own tissue to provide additional strength.
