Aging may be a natural part of life, but it is also the most important risk factor for disease and declining health. Longevity medicine is based on the scientific finding that biological age can be measured and possibly reversed, with the goal of extending healthy lifespan. Using evidence-based interventions such as Therapeutic Plasma Exchange or TPE, longevity medicine seeks to go beyond what you can accomplish with nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle practices alone. As part of a comprehensive longevity strategy, TPE by Circulate aims to address the underlying causes of aging and disease with a proprietary protocol backed by sophisticated scientific research. Just as an oil change helps your car’s engine run smoother and last longer, TPE removes the inflammatory substances that accumulate in your blood plasma throughout life and contribute to aging. Think of TPE as a tune-up for your body’s metabolic machinery.
At Phase Plastic Surgery & Longevity, we believe that helping you to lead your best life means offering the most advanced and scientifically validated methods to prolong your healthy and productive years. To our knowledge, the proprietary Circulate TPE protocol is the only intervention shown in a randomized, prospective, blinded clinical trial to reverse markers of aging. While Therapeutic Plasma Exchange in Seattle has been used for a variety of conditions, such as autoimmune diseases, we are proud to be the first in Washington State to offer the patented longevity protocol shown to promote deceleration in human biological age clocks.*
How TPE Works
TPE is related to plasmapheresis, which has been used for many years in Seattle. The idea of using it for longevity came from findings that replacing plasma in older animals with plasma from young animals showed a dramatic reversal of aging. The animals got stronger, had better energy, and looked younger, sometimes even regaining color back in their gray hair. These changes were accompanied by a deceleration of biological age clock measurements. It was subsequently found that only part of the effect was due to substances in the young donor animal’s plasma, and a lot was due to the removal of aging-related substances in the older one. This eventually led to the Circulate clinical trial, which proved that it could be safely done in humans with TPE, but without risking side effects from plasma transfusions.
What Is TPE?
Sometimes called PLEX (Plasma Exchange), a therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) treatment is similar to what you would experience with plasma donation in Seattle. It is a painless experience that takes about 2-3 hours per session, and most patients can return to normal activities immediately afterwards. It works by removing blood through an intravenous line, then circulating it through a machine that separates out the blood cells and returning them to you. The plasma is replaced with a solution of albumin (the main protein in plasma) and immune globulin.
Who Is a Candidate for TPE?
Phase Plastic Surgery & Longevity offers TPE as part of a comprehensive longevity medicine program. While the procedure can be done for established disease conditions like autoimmune disease, our focus is on the aging process and disease risk reduction. TPE builds on a foundation of longevity strategies. Anyone concerned about the effects of aging may be a candidate for TPE. Because each treatment is relatively quick and there is no downtime for recovery, therapeutic plasma exchange is not limited to patients in the Seattle area. We encourage patients from across the Northwest to call and see if Therapeutic Plasma Exchange fits into their health and longevity strategy.
